SUCESSFUL WACKY RACE IN ENGUERA

Now it has just concluded a sucessful car rice in Enguera. The idea of a wacky car race is of the Peña de Motoristas de Enguera, and it is the second year.

100_0239.JPG

We have enjoyed a very fun race, with impressive home made cars, including the flinstones, a pirate ship, a ferrari, etc.

Afther the exhibition of the diferent cars in the first lap, we have seen all of them in a last lap of the race. At the finish, the awards: money for the fastest car, and diferent funny ones, like one prize for the "más pintau" (the best painted)

It has been a very fun way to live the afternoon "enguerina" in this little town.

BABEL VALENCIA IN THE MEDIA

The same week of our presentation as local team in Valencia already had the opportunity to feel the heat of valencian society through support and encouragement of the European Documentation Centre at the Valencia University; and the CADE of Valencia University, which supported us financially for our first activity, a course about Lisboa Treaty. In fact, “Pàgina 26” gave an interview of Cristina Benlloch and Altea Mas, Director and Secretary respectively from the course.

You may see the extract of the interview in the following link:

http://babelvalencia.blogspot.com/2008/05/entrevista-en-pgina26.html

But now Babel Valencia jumps to the print media. The magazine Nou Ilion, the Journal of the campus dels tarongers from the Valencia University, devotes pages 8 and 9 of his exemplary nº8 corresponding to June 2008 to publish a presentanción of our studenst collective. The presentation of Babel Valencia is located next to interviews with persons of like Manuel Aragón Reyes, Judge of the Constitutional Court; Daniel Matoses, President of the Executive Committee autonomous CSI-CSIF Valencian Autonomous Community; and José L. Villacañas, Professor of Moral Philosophy of the University of Murcia.

MEMORY OF II COLLOQUIUM OF CONSTITUTIONAL JUSTICE OF THE PRINCIPATE OF ANDORRA

ponencia_andorra

For the third time the Principate of Andorra has organized a Symposium on Constitutional Justice, although it is the second to be done formally. And on this occasion, thanks to the invitation of the Constitutional Court of Andorra, three fellows from Spanish Constitutional Court we had the opportunity to attend the same.

visitalago

He was organized by the the Constitucional Court of Andorra. In particular, was thanks to the invitation of the Vice President of the Constitutional Court Andorran, Carles Vives Pi Sunyer, by what we enjoy splendid four days in the Principate of Andorra. We were attentive to the presentations that gave Constitucional Judges from Russia, Latin America, the different countries of the EU, including Spain, which included the presence of the President of the Court Emilia Casas Baamonte. It also attended the President of the Court of Justice in Luxembourg, Vassilios Skouris, and Judge of the Court of Strasbourg, López Guerra.

The presentations covered the question of whether the national constitutional courts may fail to implement the constitutional rule in favour of a norm of international law; being the response of the national constitutional courts negative, although with certain nuances in some cases. In addition, the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Andorra, Herrero de Miñón, made a statement of final conclusions of the event.

We also had occasion to move more closely to the constitutional system Andorran, completely unknown to us. In fact, we didn’t know that there was a Constitutional Court in Andorra. It’s a small court, of four judges, who are nominated with a mixed form. In fact, two members are appointed by the Andorran Parliament, and the other two by Heads of State of the Principate, this is, by the co-princes. The Principate of Andorra has as co-princes to the Chief of State of Republic of France, and the Bishop of Urgell.

Since then, was enlightening know the peculiarities of the constitutional system Andorran, but also was a real luxury stroll through the streets of Andorra la Vella.

asistentes_andorraThanks of the colloquium, we now more about the constitutional problem posed by the implementation of the International Law, and more specifically European Union Law when it comes into conflict with provisions that are part of the constitutional core of national States. From the visit to the cold Andorra we know now that it’s a privileged place, but unknown to most of French and Spanish people, despite the fact that is an enclave so close to us, and that in the Eurovision Song contest help Spain with 12 points to Chiquiliquatre.

A new local team is born in Valencia

primera_conferencia.jpg

A new local team is born in Valencia, with a lot of energy to organize events, write comments and participate in this big project which is Cafebabel. Our oficial history started on May 9th, like the new face of Cafebabel, the Madrid team. Valencia joined the European joy with a Conference on the Lisbon Treaty. In order to let you know what we did that day, I offer you a brief explanation of the Conference.

In the first place, we gave to the participants a pen drive that contained all the documents we were going to discuss in the Conference and some papers on the Lisbon Treaty.

We discussed about the Lisbon Treaty from two different perspectives: human rights and politics. Mireya Castillo (Professor of International Public Law. University of Valencia) spoke about the rights of European citizens. In the evening, we could enjoy the interventions of some representatives of some political parties that received a great amount of votes in the European elections: Amadeo Sanchis, from EUPV, and Albert Girona, from BLOC. We invited some members of the PSOE and the PP, but they refused to come.

Furthermore, Alfonso Moreira, from CDE (Center of European Documentation. University of Valencia) explained very clearly the sense of his job in the CDE and the range of possibilities that the center offers to us.

To conclude our Conference, two associations that work together with Babel Valencia explained their activities. Joaquín Sarrión represented the association of Constitutional Doctrine Analysts. Álvaro de la Parra represented the association Studies without Borders. From Babel Valencia, we consider that it is important to collaborate between youth associations, even if their objectives are different, given that a plural Europe makes no sense without this kind of dialogue.

MUM, I WANT A BIKE !!!

biciImagine it’s Monday. Imagine you go out and you see something in front of your house. You have seen it, haven’t you? We do notice their presence. They are among cars and pedestrians, they are fine for the road or the sidewalk, we can use them in the summer or in the winter and it’s high time we reivindicated them.

That’s why we propose this iniciative. It will be a kind of reivindication. You have to send us photographs made in any city to show how people use bicycle. We will make a selection of the photographs we receive and later on we will organise an exposition at Valencia University.

You have to indicate for each photograph the place where it was taken, the date and a brief comment (you can write whatever you want). You can send a maximum of 3 photographs to this e-mail adress : babelvalencia@gmail.com.

Remember… you only have to ride a bike
